W. E. Hill & Sons

$3,000.00

Made by Edgar Bishop (1904 – 1943) Joined Hills 1917

Edgar Bishop apprenticed with William Retford at the firm of W.E. Hill & Sons alongside Albert Leeson after WWI ended in 1918, and the two became the cantankerous Retford’s favorite pupils. Bishop and Leeson worked together on the department’s most revered and demanding projects, including the spectacular gold ‘fleur de lys’ bows. They also re-made some of William Grieve Johnston’s later works. Bishop’s bows are marked with the numeral 2.

This fine example of his bows, features a round Pernambuco stick with plain ebony frog and mother of pearl slide, which extends over where the Heel Plate would normally be along with partially original Whalebone lapping and new Thumb Leather. Restored cheek crack. Bows of this grade are currently on the market for as much as $4,500.00 USD. Due to the restored cheek crack we are able to offer this bow for significantly below market value. Having personally owned and played numerous Hill bows, I can confidently say that this bow has not lost any of its fine playability. 60 grams
